How Does CoolSculpting Work?

CoolSculpting works through a process called cryolipolysis, also known as “fat freezing.” The CoolSculpting device safely and nonsurgically delivers precisely controlled cooling to the fat cells underneath the skin. When those fat cells are brought to a low enough temperature, they die. Your body naturally flushes them out over the next couple of months, and you’re left with a slimmer and more sculpted silhouette.

Because fat cells freeze at higher temperatures than surrounding tissues, this doesn’t cause any damage to your skin or muscles.

Am I a Candidate for CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting may be right for you if you have bulges in certain areas that simply won’t slim down, no matter how dedicated you are to eating right and working out. The most commonly treated areas include the:

  • Abdomen
  • Flanks (“love handles”)
  • Bra bulge
  • Arms
  • Thighs
  • Back
  • Underneath the chin (“double chin”)
  • Underneath the buttocks (“banana rolls”)

While CoolSculpting can help you look slimmer, it’s important to note that it is not a weight loss solution for people who are obese.

CoolSculpting isn’t your only option for nonsurgical body contouring! Depending on your goals, you may be a better candidate for EMSCULPT® muscle toning or EMTONE™ cellulite reduction. We’ll work with you to determine your best treatment approach during your private consultation.

What Are CoolSculpting Treatments Like?

All it takes is about an hour per treatment area to reveal a body you love from head to toe—and you can spend most of that time napping!

After consulting with you about your goals, your provider will have you lie comfortably as he or she positions the device on your targeted area. You may feel some suction as the device pulls your tissue into the applicator. (Some people say this feels like holding your hand over the end of a vacuum hose.)

Then, the controlled cooling begins. Expect to feel some intense cold, which will quickly fade into numbness. For the rest of your session, you’ll be free to read, relax, work on your laptop, or, yes, even nap.

What Is CoolSculpting Recovery Like?

CoolSculpting is completely nonsurgical and doesn’t require any anesthesia, so you can return to work and your normal activities, including the gym, right away. It’s normal to have some redness, sensitivity, and tingling in your treated area as it warms back up. This typically goes away within a few hours and shouldn’t keep you from enjoying your usual routine.

When Will I See Results After CoolSculpting?

It takes a few weeks for your body to begin naturally flushing out the treated fat cells. You may start to see changes between 3 weeks and 2 months after your treatment. However, your body will continue to flush out fat cells for as long as 4 to 6 months.

How Long Do CoolSculpting Results Last?

Once the treated fat cells are gone, they’re gone for good. As long as you’re able to maintain a stable weight, your newly sculpted body will last for years to come.

How Many CoolSculpting Treatments Will I Need?

Dr. Peet and his professional staff will develop a customized CoolSculpting treatment plan tailored to your body, goals, and budget. While many people are happy with their results after a single session, you may need 2 or 3 to achieve your best possible look.

How Much Does CoolSculpting Cost?

The price of CoolSculpting at our The Woodlands, TX, med spa varies depending on a few factors, including:

  • Your areas of concern
  • The number of sessions needed
  • Your ultimate goals

We’ll provide a personalized pricing estimate after your consultation with one of our experienced CoolSculpting providers.

CoolSculpting FAQs

Is CoolSculpting safe?

The CoolSculpting procedure is FDA-cleared and proven to be safe and effective for reducing fat on the flanks, abdomen, and thighs, and other areas. During your consultation, you can also ask about EON®, a touchless laser body contouring procedure cleared by the FDA to reduce fat in the lower and upper abdomen.

Are there any side effects from CoolSculpting?

During the procedure, you may experience deep pulling, tugging, pinching, numbness, or discomfort. Following the procedure, typical side effects include temporary numbness, redness, swelling, bruising, firmness, tingling, and stinging.

Who is not a candidate for CoolSculpting?

The CoolSculpting procedure is not for everyone. You should not have the CoolSculpting procedure if you suffer from cryoglobulinemia or paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria.

Do I need to take special supplements or follow a strict health regimen after CoolSculpting?

Nope! You won’t need to take any supplements or pills or adopt new diet and exercise habits. All you’ll need to do is maintain your healthy lifestyle and enjoy your newly sculpted shape.

What happens if I gain weight after CoolSculpting?

Many people, after seeing the results from their CoolSculpting procedure, take even better care of themselves. However, if you do gain weight, you should gain it evenly all over your body, not just in the treated areas.*

Which is better: CoolSculpting or liposuction?

CoolSculpting is an excellent nonsurgical alternative to liposuction. It doesn’t require any incisions, needles, or anesthesia, so it’s faster to recover from and takes less of a toll on your body.
